  1. Annual plant Polygonum aviculare of the dock
  2. family, growing on bare ground including
  3. seashores. Often low-growing, but with stems
  4. up to 2m /6 ft long, the small lance-shaped
  5. leaves have bases that sheathe the stem,
  6. giving a superficial resemblance to grass.
  7. The small pinkish flowers grow in small
  8. clusters in the leaf axils in late summer,
  9. followed by seeds which are a favourite with
  10. birds. Knotgrass grows worldwide except in
  11. the polar regions.
